Well,
not too much has happened recently with out project. Because it was a brand new
idea, there has been a lot of infrustructure to set up- a lot more than I think
we thought there would be. The biggest one is consent of the subjects we
photograph. To avoid any legal quarrels our principal is requireing us to
obatin writted consent of all subjects we photograph. Writing up a disclaimer
was really tricky, we had to make sure we detailed everything that could get us
into trouble such as publishing photos of minors on various public media
platforms. This then had to be translated into Tamil and Sinnahlese so that
locals could understand it. One of the issues we encountered with this is that
some words and phrases don’t translate easily. It really got me thinking about
the issues in translating and how meanings of words can be lost and changed in
the process.
